Writing poetry always begins with telling what is in the heart. That is the easiest thing in writing poetry. However, telling what is in the heart is not enough, there are other things that can make the poem a good poem (1) Figurative Language (2) Technique of Expression (3) Structure and Diction (4) Imagery. From these four things, a bond can be formed so that it reaches a poem with multiple interpretations.

In the poetry writing class in English, there is a special addition, namely English language proficiency. Because, there is a difference in the meaning of words between Indonesian and English. The meaning is not the meaning of the word in the dictionary. Because the meaning can be born from a kind of ‘expression’ or ‘custom’ in a particular society.

However, when we read the submitted manuscripts, we could clearly interpret the poems from the participants. Most of the poems from the writers were more about ‘expressing’ feelings of love about oneself, family, and the environment that were indeed very close to the experiences of the writers.
